Tumblr, what are you guys doing? I was literally given you guys the benefit of the doubt that you will use the recent situation to finally redeem yourself but I guess I was dead wrong and now I have finally needed to eat shit.
So for those who don’t know or haven’t read the news, Tumblr have been in pretty much hot water as their app was pulled from the Apple’s App Store for having CP (not saying the actual word, you know what it mean) and this resulting with a purge of many blogs that contain CP are wipe for the website even though it resulting in some NSFW or SFW blogs being caught in the crosshairs and you know what, I was very much supportive of this because this I was like yes, this is a breath of fresh air. This is what the community needs but then my praise have finally turns to anger and frustration.
From December 17th, Tumblr have announce that adult content would no longer be allowed on Tumblr and my first reaction I have is why? They have so much potential to try and fix the problem into making a better place for everyone including NSFW and SFW blogs but instead decided to take the easy route of purging literally all adult contents from the site which in my opinion is a textbook example of a “knee-jerk” reaction.
Instead what they should have done is to improve the AI and bots to hunt down on both CP and porn bots because everyone knows that the problem in the first place and it’s not like they don’t have the resources to do this because Tumblr is a subsidiary of Oath which is a Verizon company so they have tons of resources to improve their AI and bots plus other websites that allowed NSFW content like Discord, Flickr or even Reddit even have bots and set guidelines that prevent certain NSFW contents from being posted and issues harsh punishment if you violate the rules. Even PORNHUB (yes that porn site) you are allowed to post all type of porn except of course CP and bestiality because that would result in a permanent ban. Tumblr could have use that example but instead they took the most dumbest route of banning adult content which have been allowed ever since the website first founded.
I’m not mad at Tumblr for taking any decisions that serve their interest after all it’s a business but this is what I like to call a dumbass decision and a pretty lazy one in fact that it’s not even that hard of a thing to improved the algorithm of bots and AI and that’s coming from someone who only do Information Technology for literally 1 YEAR before withdrawing and I’m sure I could fix up a most logical solution as it’s not all that difficult to do so.
So I ask this question again before ending. Tumblr, are you guys serious?
